Cats are awesome creatures; you can read how they inspire me here. They make the ordinary extraordinary and are portals to wellness in many ways. Did you know feeling a cat’s purr has been linked to states of calm, lowered stress, and reduced blood pressure in the human body? Purrs emit low-frequency vibrations, which trigger the body’s relaxation response and boost mood by stimulating the release of endorphins.
Cats show how energy medicine is common and employed by many whether they realize it or not. Purring is a form of vibrational medicine humans have connected with for millennia; it stimulates healing in both cats and humans. Purrs demonstrate the efficacy of vibrational healing; folks with a purring cat on them often have visceral (and positive) mental and physical responses to this form of cat therapy.
The healing power of vibrations is real and accessible to all. You can find solace and healing through sound vibrations such as from music, kind words, and humming. The act of humming switches a person’s body from the “fight or flight” state to the “rest and digest” state. Less common, but equally effective, is the vibrational healing modality of flower essences. Vibrational waves from essences are felt (and heard) by a person’s subtle and energetic bodies. Vibrations connect us to healing and to our inner soulscapes, and they are a very common part of this dimension.

Domesticated felines of this world also connect us to our inner soulscapes. They stealthily maneuver their way into our hearts, beckoning us within to witness them in this space. Cats connect us to community, as well. Let us move from talking about the power of the purr to the power of pebbling. This is a way of sending “good vibes” to others in gentle and non-threatening ways – which is another form of vibrational medicine. The intention to send heart thoughts from your being to another shifts the electromagnetic signals emanating out from your heart and into the world.
The pebbling term originated from the act of male penguins courting females with pebbles; female penguins can then use these small stones to build nests. For humans, pebbling manifests as little deeds of love and joy done for your partner, friends, or family. It includes sending pictures, videos, and memes to friends and loved ones. Behind these acts is a desire to bring joy to another, as well as a desire to feel joy in sharing these packets of happiness.
Pebbling is a way to share joy with minimal risk, especially if the subject of the “pebble” isn’t too personal. This can help all, but I feel these “non-personal/neutral” acts might be especially welcome to those who crave connection and softness, but are uncomfortable with emotions. Such as those who were raised in families allergic to open affection and feelings. Pebbles like, “I read this article about redwoods, remembered your story of hiking through them, and I thought it’d interest you.” Or “Check this out! I saw this silly Instagram post about pandas that made me smile. I thought of you since you love them and decided to send some laughs your way.”

I first heard the pebbling term from a member of a group text chain who said this is what we were doing; another member titled this group “Cat Chat.” This thread consists of several relatives and friends and is about all things cat-tacular; we share pictures of the felines in our lives – felines our souls contracted to interact with in this life. These pictures usually start a conversation with silly remarks, story tidbits, heart emojis, and gushing over how cute the cat looks. It is an open forum of flowing love and laughter via a neutral subject – cats. The energy behind it all is a validation of love: “Oh, you love your cat? I know the feeling! A picture of my cat Mr. Handsome is what you see when you look up the definition of love. 🥰”
Cats are one example of a common love bond people share; some other topics folks connect over are children, dogs, music, sports, and nature. We bond over creatures and energies that lighten our hearts and bring smiles to our faces. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve passed a person being walked by their dog, complimented their furball, and then felt the smile burst from the animal companion’s heart as they reflected upon their beautiful beast. We shared a moment focused on love and then went about our days with softer hearts. In such instances, strangers experience connection and understand on some level they are communicating in the language of happiness. As the late George Carlin once remarked, “Everyone smiles in the same language.”

Flowing love and kindness over a mutual joy connects us to others whom we might not have anything else in common with. It gives us the opportunity to focus on our similarities rather than differences. In my “Cat Chat” experience, all on the thread belong to the “I love cats” club. It’s a club open to all in the world and does not have membership fees. The only “rule” is to allow love to flow for these beings.
Pebbling does not have to even touch on the love concept – it can be about lighthearted things. These types of interactions help balance out the serious and harsh nature of the world surrounding us. They can provide much-needed relief from problems we all face. In my “Cat Chat” group, silliness is very welcome; it increases the potential of another kind of vibrational medicine – laughter.
Laughter is not only medicine for the soul, it promotes healing in the physical, mental, and emotional bodies, too. The vibrations created in this act stimulate your organs, soothe tension and stress in the body (and in your mind), improve your immune system over time, and make it easier to cope with challenging situations. Energetically, laughter raises the vibration of your being, moving you a bit farther from fear and a bit closer to the vibration of love. Laughter helps align you with positivity and solutions rather than negativity and problem-mindedness.

A pebble is something small, yet its impact can be huge for a person. They’ve been so for me during some tough times. Pebbles (and cats) helped me remember to smile. They added spots of light to dark days.
Below is a slightly different offering of mine originally created for the Cat Chatters. Like some of my other creations, I was guided to make it public. This piece came from a foundation of Cat Chat pebbles, from pictures to a few choice phrases. These were woven together with inspiration I heard to make it all into a little story; and the final piece is meant to lighten and brighten hearts. FYI, the village psychic is yours truly.
If this story brings a smile to your heart, please recommend it to others who you think would enjoy it. This planet needs more silliness.
